Michael Tolcher - I Am

tolcher_i_am.gifAs I was channel surfing recently, I stumbled upon CN8 and encountered Michael Tolcher, strumming and tapping away on what appeared to be a hogtop Martin acoustic.  Being a new student of guitar - mainly classical and steel string acoustic, I watched with rapt interest.  I was drawn to the urban groove of the tunes, especially Mission Responsible, with its mix of acoustic warmth and real-time pulse.  But more than that, I liked the lyrics.

Michael's musical message is one of Hope.  It's one that is consistent with our philosophy here at HopeScope Family Online that all is never lost, as long as there is Hope.  This music is essentially an aural embodiment of the work we do here, and a refreshing reinvigoration of possibility, and positivity.  We all need more of that these days.

Thanks, Michael.

Michael's debut CD, I Am, is in stores now.

Welcome to HopeScope Family Online! Minimize

4candles.bmpWe are a friendly peer support community and welcome you to join! Please help us to grow by telling us about yourself in the "Who's new here?" section of our forums, and by being... well... YOU!

Our main mission is to provide young people and adults a safe place to find resource information and support for life's challenges, such as abuse, chemical dependency, eating disorders, self injury, grieving and loss, loneliness, and other trying issues, so we welcome your suggestions and informational resource contributions! We are only able to continue our work through the cooperation and participation of our members.

But don't let our daunting mission fool you.  We work through the tough stuff when we have to, but we also have a lot of fun, because that's the stuff of life!  teecat_small.jpgSome of us are musicians, writers, photographers and other creative types.  Some are adults, and some are kids.  Some of us are very much alike, while others march to their own drummer.  Our biggest commonality, though, is that, together, we're a lot less like a web forum than a family.  We're a "family of friends".  And we became one by welcoming people like you.

So, please check here, and on the forums, for periodic important announcements about our community!  More topical categories are coming all the time, so check in often!  As we develop this site, in conjunction with our existing forums, we plan to incorporate more dynamic and interactive functionality to enhance your experiance here.  We hope you'll look around, and join us.  We hope to have more interactive functionality soon, but in the meantime:

Happy 5th Birthday, HopeScope! - Tuesday, June 30, 2009

You know... I just can't believe it. It seems like yesterday when I was filling out the on-line forms to start this place... looking at forum skins... trying to decide on the best charter for us... thinking of how to make this place appealing to people who might need us, or just want to be here.

Now, here we are. Most of the veteran adults remain... as dedicated as ever. And most of the earliest Young Ones are still here... but a little older... and hopefully a bit further away from hurt, and closer to happiness.

It's a bit quiet here now. I told Tracy that I hope it's just because of summer and people being outdoors more. She agreed, but also reminded me that peeps here are getting stronger... not able to be knocked over as easily... more likely to come here and tell us what they want to do, or can do, than what they feel they can't. That's a good thing.

Even the seemingly smallest successes here are successes that I'll cheer... ones that keep me committed to each and every one of you for the long haul. So, I offer five years of thanks, and five years of love for each of you... and as many more as I'm allowed.

Viva HopeScope!

Spring's on the way to Summer! - Friday, June 12, 2009

The Kitty and all of us at HopeScope would like to wish everyone a happy Summer! Now's as good a time as any to examine, identify, and discard ways of thinking and behaviors that are not serving you well. And remember that your acts of kindness, no matter how seemingly small, can change someone's life for the better. You have the power. All you need to do is act. Begin, today, by telling someone - or showing someone - that you love them.

Remembering 9/11 - Thursday, September 11, 2008

Today, HopeScope remembers those lost in the 9/11 attacks of 2001, and empathizes with survivors and loved ones of those lost.  Let us recognize that teaching young people how to reject hatred-based ideologies is the only way to alleviate such atrocity.

Pardon our mess! - Thursday, August 14, 2008

Greets!

It seems that this site is always a work in progress, and that I have so many things I'd like to do with it, but rarely have the time.  I suppose that, at this juncture, I should be happy that it's basically a gateway to the forums, but I feel guilty because I've let it become a bit stagnant.  I promise to try to remedy that as I get time!  Meanwhile, please know that HopeScope is a healthy and thriving family, and that you are always welcome!  :)

Happy 4th Birthday, HopeScope! - June 29, 2008

Hi, 'Scopers!

Tomorrow, 30 June, is our actual fourth birthday, but I wanted to make the announcement a day early so that those of you who are in advanced time zones coud see it.

This birthday is a watershed event for HopeScope in many ways. We have enough longevity now to have seen our family members, young and older, transition through many important developmental and lifetime milestones. There has been struggle, triumph, sadness, joy. Most of us are still together, across four nations; some are not here at the moment, but even they are never really absent, because nigh on four years of deep affection for them abides, and can never be erased.

We have seen some of our loved ones fall down, and get back up. This family has seen weddings, graduations, job changes, blood, tears, illness, health, death, and life. We have seen everything that comprises the balance of living, and we have seen it together. Whether you are young or older here, there is no part of my day, or my life, that is unaffected by each and all of you, past and present. You are my loved ones. Remember Pink Floyd's "Hey, You": united we stand, divided we fall.

Today, especially, I offer my deepest thanks to each and every adult and child - past and present - who has made the last four years possible. You are all uncommonly special people. You are the very core of HopeScope. And what is more, I reaffirm my commitment to each and all of you, indefinitely. I want to be there when each of you hits your stride. I want to see it happen.

Vive HopeScope... and love to each and all of you, on our birthday and always!

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital "Partner in Hope" - Sunday, April 01, 2007
StJude.gif

HopeScope Family Online is pleased to announce that we have become a proud "Partner in Hope" with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  An average of 85% of every dollar we contribute goes to fund cancer research and treatment, and sees to it that no child is turned away because of their inability to pay.  Please consider becoming a Partner as well, or making a nominal contribution.  You can be part of the solution!
